Now that you have received your HVAC system installation quotes, you need to narrow down your options, and consider what the best choice is for your new furnace, A/C or heat pump installation. When making a decision on quotes, consider the quality of parts, time the installation will take, maintenance agreements offered, and overall experience dealing with the company.

Once you have your quotes from several companies, start doing your homework. Look at the system the company plans to install, and research it online. If there are many negative reviews or complaints about the product, ask the company if there’s a different option they can install. Also, study the efficiency ratings of your new furnace or heat pump. An energy-efficient furnace can save you a lot of money of the life of the furnace. Paying a little extra up front can save you a lot in the future. This is especially the case in Northeast Ohio where your heating system works so hard.

Make sure the company doing your installation plans to perform a heating load calculation on hour home, to see what size heating system will do the best job. Oversized and undersized units both waste energy and create other problems.

Most HVAC companies offer maintenance agreements. These can be great if they include labor and tune-ups at no extra cost, but they can also be a source of hidden costs that will show up down the line. Be sure to understand the type of maintenance agreement you’re buying into, and make sure it’s the right one for your needs.

Consider the time that the installation will take, as well as the cost for labor. Sometimes labor will cost less on paper, but will make the job last longer, and leave you colder during the harsh Lakefront winter. Having a job done quickly, but costing a little more, may mean less of a headache, and less time sleeping with your parka on.

Last, consider the attitude that the company has when answering your questions and meeting with you; Angie’s List is great for this. HVAC installations are serious undertaking, so having a company that cares about your concerns and treats your questions with importance will help if any issues arise before, during or after the installation.
