Save Money In the Cooler Months of the Year
As summer comes to an end, it’s time to start planning for energy cost savings in the colder months. Here are a few tips to help get you started so you can save money and enjoy this cozy time of year even more:
- Know Your Energy Hogs: We are more likely to be in front of the TV or the computer indoors during the fall and winter than we are when it’s warm and sunny outside. These two are amongst the highest users of energy in the home, so be mindful that you don’t leave them on when they’re not in use. - Make sure you humidifier is working: A whole house humidifier set to a comfortable humidity level (35%-40%) will actually make you feel more comfortable in your home in the cold, dry winter months. Proper humidity levels allow you to set your thermostat to a lower temperature while maintaining a comfortable living space. This in turn will cause you furnace to run less, saving you money in gas.
- Consider Radiant Heating: Radiant heat systems are installed underneath your floors, providing a comfortable heat source for your home that is extremely energy efficient. You can find huge savings here over the long run.
- Upgrade Your Lighting: This can be as simple as investing in LED bulbs rather than tungsten bulbs—a step that will certainly save you money—or as involved as upgrading the electrical system in your home so that your lighting system is safer and less taxing on your overall energy grid for the home.
