The air you breathe on a daily basis greatly affects your overall health and well-being. Tiny airborne particles floating through your home lower your indoor air quality and cause adverse side effects, such as:

  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Sneezing
  • Itchy, watery eyes
  • Coughing
  • Allergy and asthma symptoms
  • Respiratory complications

These microscopic annoyances are commonplace in our daily lives. Pets, soaps, cleaning supplies, furniture and perfumes are a few things that cause an increase in airborne pollutants such as dust, dander, fungal spores, smoke, odor, bacteria, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and pollen. You can control these particles that reduce your indoor air quality with a few simple items.

Ventilation and circulation

Proper airflow and ventilation will help push the airborne particles out while preventing your home from feeling stuffy. Merely opening your windows and running a fan can help circulate and ventilate the air in your home. However, this method requires being at the mercy of the weather. Installing a ventilation system is a more reliable way to keep your entire home ventilated and with proper circulation no matter the weather conditions.

Purification systems

Air purifiers work by continuously running the air in your home through a filter that catches airborne particles and impurities that reduce your indoor air quality. Air purification systems are generally available in two types: whole-house and single units. Single units are cheaper and can be moved from room to room. However, they can take up needed space and don’t provide complete purification to your entire home.

A whole-house air purifier is typically attached to your HVAC unit. Whole-house systems can be a bit expensive and some consumers don’t have the budget for this option. No matter what air purifier you purchase, none of them will remove dangerous gases such as carbon monoxide. All homeowners should install CO detectors around the home to monitor this silent killer.
