Northeast Ohio enjoys a relatively temperate summer climate compared to other parts of the country, but summer’s heat and humidity still drive energy bills up. A highly efficient A/C system helps keep costs down, but it also provides other benefits such as improved humidity control, better air filtration and more even cooling performance.

Energy Star-certified air conditioning systems are designed to be as energy efficient as possible. Each Energy Star-approved system has to meet specific energy consumption requirements before it gains this designation. On average, they end up being 15 percent more efficient than non-certified models.

If you have an older home, the problem might be more with your furnace than your air conditioning system. Central air conditioning uses a blower to get the air through your ducts. This is a part of the furnace, and the older the furnace is, the more likely the blower motor or other components will need to be replaced.

Other benefits of installing a highly efficient A/C unit include fewer repairs, more environmentally friendly, and user-friendly features such as a filter-check light, variable speed blower technology, two-speed compressor, and programmable thermostat.
